Do self help audios or books really work?
Yes,some of them do. But you must do the work of listening to them and putting into practice what you have learned. Most times people don’t. They rush on to the next promised help or cure before giving the current one a fair chance. I am no different. You have no idea how many diet books I have bought over the years (and I am still not slim!)
Self help audios can work if you stick with them. You didn’t get your problem overnight and changing your mindset, healing your pain or whatever it is that you want to happen is not going to happen overnight either. But if you really want to see change and want to work at it they can be a huge help.
The self empowerment audios that this site is concerned with area little bit different from the self help books that tell you what to do. The audios I am interested in here, are for listening to and that is all. You do not get a list of tasks that you have to do each day. Which for me is good news!
With brainwave entrainment audios you just put them on and listen for say 20 to 30 minutes a day. The idea with the audios is that they can change your state by guiding your brain waves into a particular pattern. You can listen to a relaxation CD or MP3 that uses brainwave entrainment and you will be guided into alpha waves so that you feel calm and at peace.
If you have read anything about meditation or have read the “Relaxation Response”by Herbert Benson MD. then you will understand what I mean. The 20 minutes a day that you spend quietly with your mind still has an effect on your life outside of the time you are actually involved in doing it. It imroves your health and many doctors now refer their stressed out patients to learn and practice meditation.
So what do brainwave entrainment audios have to do with this? Well you can listen to one and it helps you to really get into deep alpha waves when you are meditating. It helps you because meditation can be tricky. Just tryting to relax your mind and not follow thoughts but to let them drift away, which is what you are meant to do when meditating is not easy. Your mind doesn’t like to be switched off. So anything that can help with this can be a real boon. You put on your meditation CD or download and you allow it to lead you into the right mind frame.
It isn’t just for relaxation either. Brainwave entrainment is able to help you increase your learning power, improve your motivation, reduce anxiety and panic and many other things.
